GenX whimsical skedaddler from S-Africa, husband half of PikiPiki Overland and co-founder of Turkana Gear. In 2010, Elsebie and I left on a six-month motorcycle trip. Sold everything, including Mum-in-law, and buggered off. Six months turned into 16 years of dodgy decisions and adventure.
I've been riding since my school days, and it just clicked with me. The freedom of being on a motorcycle, unplugging from the everyday nonsense and going wherever the hell you please, has always appealed to me. You don't have to follow the crowd or fit in. Adventure riding just took that freedom a step further. To me, it's 4x4 overlanding, only better, with two fewer wheels and a lot more fun.
