Hero XPulse 450 Revealed: Hero’s Biggest Adventure Bike and What It Means for South Africa
Hero's XPulse 450, revealed at EICMA 2026: a new 421cc single with 46 hp, 21-inch front, KYB suspension and CarPlay, and what we know for South Africa.

For two years the bike everyone called the XPulse 421 lived on as spy photos from the Himalaya and a teaser at EICMA 2024. On 3 November in Milan, Hero MotoCorp finally showed it, under a new name. The XPulse 450 is the biggest and most powerful motorcycle Hero has made, and it takes the brand out of the small adventure class and into the busy world of the 400 to 450cc adventure bike.
A new 421cc single
Despite the 450 badge, the engine is a new 421cc, liquid-cooled single with four valves and twin overhead cams. Hero’s figures, as reported by ZigWheels and BikeDekho, are 46.6 PS, about 46 hp (34.3 kW), at 9,100 rpm and 38 Nm at 7,500 rpm. A six-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch sends the power to the rear wheel. That puts it right alongside the bikes it will have to beat: Royal Enfield’s Himalayan 450 makes about 40 hp, and KTM’s 390 Adventure a little more.
Hero says the bike was developed with direct input from Hero MotoSports Team Rally, which races the Dakar. It has not yet said which parts or ideas carry over from the rally bikes, but the brief is clear from the specification.

Built for gravel
The XPulse 450 runs on tubeless spoked wheels, a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear, the combination most serious off-road riders want. Up front is a 43 mm KYB upside-down fork with 225 mm of travel and 22 steps of compression and rebound adjustment, and Hero describes the suspension as fully adjustable. BikeWale reports 230 mm of ground clearance and a tall 848 mm seat. Protection is part of the package, with a large bash plate, a radiator guard and tubular bars around the front bodywork, and there is a rear rack with mounting points for luggage.

A big screen and modern electronics
The XPulse 450 has a large landscape TFT screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is rare at this end of the market, along with 12-volt and USB sockets. There are four riding modes, Rain, Road, Trail and Off-road, with adjustable traction control, throttle maps and ABS settings.

What we do not know yet
Hero has not given the weight, fuel capacity, rear suspension details or a price. Reports also differ on how close the bike is to production: BikeWale describes the show bike as a prototype with production versions in the second half of 2027, while ZigWheels expects it to go on sale outside India first and in India early next year. Hero also showed a smaller XPulse 150 and an XPulse Scrambler concept based on the new platform.
What it means for South Africa
Hero is already established here. Hero South Africa has grown steadily in the commercial and private markets, received new investment from Astoria Investments in 2025 and announced a new leisure range of motorcycles for 2026. It has not said whether the XPulse 450 will be part of that range. If it does come, at the kind of price Hero is known for, it would give South African riders another genuinely off-road-capable alternative to the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, which Moto Royale sells here, and the KTM 390 Adventure. We will update this article as soon as Hero South Africa confirms its plans.
